We finally have a trailer for AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM where Temuera stars as Tom Curry. The film also stars Jason Momoa, Nicole Kidman, and Patrick Wilson.
There’s a trailer for one of Temuera’s upcoming films available. Here in SONS OF SUMMER, Temuera plays the part of Frank in what looks to be a bad guy role. He looks so super badass in this and again makes one wonder why Disney isn’t utilizing him more. Just saying.
It’s confirmed. Temuera has joined the new Disney+ show AHSOKA as Captain Rex. No word as to whether he’ll be playing Rex in current timeline, or in flashbacks. But this news is fantastic. Article below.
Boba Fett Star Temuera Morrison Joins Ahsoka as Clone Wars’ Captain Rex
Temuera Morrison will return to the Star Wars universe in the upcoming Ahsoka Disney+ series playing the first live action version of Captain Rex
Temuera Morrison, who famously played Jango Fett (and his clones) in the Star Wars prequel films, and then recently returnef to take over the role of Boba Fett in Boba Fett’s recent appearances on Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, will return to the Star Wars universe in the upcoming Ahsoka Disney+ series playing the first live action version of Captain Rex, a popular animated character who made his debut in the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film.
Dee Bradley Baker had been the only other actor to play Captain Rex before now (Baker voices all of the clone soldiers), with Rex showing up in a number of Star Wars animated series before now, including Star Wars: Rebels, The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi.
Who is Captain Rex?
Captain Rex, whose clone designation was CT-7567, was one of the best clone soldiers in the Grand Army of the Republic. He was Anakin Sykwalekr’s “first-in-command,” and he also served alongside Jedi Commander Ashoka Tano. He stood out among the other clones by his buzz cut blonde hair, and the stylized hawk eyes he put on his helmet, as well as some blue markings he put on his armor.
Rex was devoted to his fellow soldiers, and the Republic. He was one of the few clones who chose not to execute Order 66, as his inhibitor chip had been disabled before that point, and obviously he was too noble of a person to take part in such a massacre. He then continued to pop up in various Star Wars series over the years, including showing up older and slightly worse for the wear in Star Wars: Rebels. Fan speculation over the years have theorized that Red was one of the Rebels who helped disable the Death Star’s force field on Endor in Return of the Jedi.
Will Temuera Morrison be playing Rex in flashbacks or in “present day?”
Since Morrison played Jango Fett, the original source of the clones for the Clone army, it is unclear which version of Captain Rex he will be playing. The Ahsoka series will be set after the events of Return of the Jedi (on the same timeline of The Mandalorian), so it is unclear whether Morrison will be playing a “current” version of Rex, or if he will be playing Rex in flashbacks to the time Rex and Ahsoka worked so closely together in the Grand Army of the Republic.
It is also unclear whether Morrison will be playing any other clone characters in the series. Since he was the basis for the clones, it would make sense, but obviously, that was two decades ago, and Morrison is now 62 years old.
While attending the Supanova Comic-Con in Melbourne, Temuera made his feelings known about wanting to bring Captain Rex to live-action. He also said he’d love to bring all the clones to live-action. I say the more Temuera the merrier. Article below.
Star Wars: Temuera Morrison Wants To Star In A Captain Rex Spinoff
Star Wars: Temuera Morrison Wants To Star In A Captain Rex Spinoff
Temuera Morrison is ready to move beyond playing Boba Fett, Jango Fett, and every Clone Trooper in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. He’s got his sights on something a bit more refined and a lot more grizzled. If the New Zealand actor has his way, there could be a Captain Rex spinoff in the works one of these days.
While Morrison played the clones of Jango Fett in the Star Wars movies, the infinite role went to voice actor Dee Bradley Baker when the stories moved to animation for the series The Clone Wars and others. This included the character of Captain Rex, a clone who managed to get past the impulsive programming of Order 66 and retain his ability to think freely. The character appeared prominently in The Clone Wars and later appeared as a much older version in Star Wars Rebels, still voiced by Baker. But he still hasn’t made his live-action debut, and Morrison sees that as an opportunity.
In an interview with Dexerto at Supanova Comic-Con in Melbourne, Morrison shared his simple pitch. “I’d love to do a Captain Rex [project] of some kind, that would be cool,” he said when asked what other stories he’d like to help tell in the Star Wars universe. “Just to play one of the clones.” Morrison already appeared prominently as Boba Fett in both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. But while there’s still plenty of room for more Boba action, something about the clones keeps him intrigued and willing to return.
“I enjoyed playing that broken-down Clone Trooper in Obi-Wan,” he continued with a chuckle, referring to his cameo as a homeless veteran Clone Trooper in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. “Credits please! That was fun, so something like that would be good, but we’ll see what happens with the powers that be.” The Star Wars clones shared a dark future after the events of The Clone Wars, and there’s a ton of storytelling potential there that would be wonderful to see with Morrison taking part. Sure, The Bad Batch has already explored that aspect of the clones’ tale, but it still has yet to get a proper live-action treatment.
There have been questions about whether Captain Rex will return for the Ahsoka series, particularly given the close camaraderie shared by the two characters in The Clone Wars. Seeing Morrison as the grizzled veteran on-screen would be a welcomed addition. But there have been no hints that he’s been cast in the series, and such things tend to leak. So as fun as that might be, it’s probably wise not to bet on it.
Still, it wouldn’t be the first time Star Wars has kept a perfect secret. Most were surprised to see Morrison make a guest appearance as Boba Fett in The Mandalorian season 2. That’s not even to mention the appearance of Jack Black and Lizzo in the series, which nobody saw coming. Morrison may have already played Rex in some secret way, making him fall in love with the character. So there’s always room for hope. That’s one theme Star Wars loves to explore, after all.
New images for you. Here Temuera attends the recent STAR WARS CELEBRATION where he was on a panel for THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT, THE MANDALORIAN and others.
The update on the site is this: I’m in the process of editing THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT screencaps. It’s been a long task since there’s over 100,000 to edit. It’ll take some time to complete. I also have the Disney Gallery documentary on the show and I’ll be including those in the upload. Please be patient.
